Capri, an island in Italy’s Gulf of Naples, is famed for its rugged landscape, upscale beach resorts and high-end shops selling handmade leather sandals and signature limoncello liqueur. One of its best-known natural sites is the Blue Grotto, a dark cavern where the sea glows electric blue, the result of sunlight passing through an underwater cave. Our Capri Collection reflects it’s namesake with the rich blue color and shell formed dinnerware.

Via Del Condotti leads off into the ancient city center from the foot of the Spanish Steps. This is not only one of the richest streets in Italy but also one of the best for shopping in Rome. The Spanish Steps are constructed using 138 steps that are a mix of curved and straight flights, vistas, and terraces. During the 18th century, the Spanish Steps became a meeting place for both artists and poets, and today is where local and tourists all come to take in views overlooking the city. Our Condotti Collection flatware’s handles are tipped with stainless steel ridges reminiscent of the Spanish Steps.

Sogno Toscano or Tuscan Dream was commissioned by Modigliani Italian Design in conjunction with an exhibition at the Museo de Montelupo honoring our featured artist Lazzaro’s forty years as a ceramist. Each piece provides a painting of the Tuscan landscape that evokes the sunsets that have captured imaginations for generations.

The Taormina Collection is a favorite to mix with our Frutta Laccata, Zucca, and Terre di Chianti Collections as well as to use all on its own. The glazing creates a deep rich color and the form has a rustic feel adding warmth to any table.

As soon as you arrive in Taormina, you will feel the magical, mythical atmosphere spread all around which has enchanted visitors from all over the world for years and years. Settled on a hill of the Monte Tauro, Taormina dominates two grand, sweeping bays below and on the southern side, the top of Mount Etna, the European highest active volcano, often capped with snow, offering to the visitors a breathtaking, dramatic and memorable view over almost one hundred miles of Mediterranean Sea. This is the inspiration for our Taormina Collection.

One of our original and most traditional collections, Terre di Chianti or Land of the Wine is decorated with the vineyards in mind. The greens, browns, and burgundy grape colors blend well with our Condotti wood flatware, Tovagliette linens in brown and Villa d’Este amber glassware.

Without grapes, there would be no wine. So it goes without saying that grapes are an important crop in Italy. There are literally thousands of varieties of grapes, including internationally popular wine grapes Montepulciano and Sangiovese as well as varieties less known outside the region, such as Vermentino and Nebbiolo. Wine is used in cooking to create reductions and, of course, to accompany the meal. Our Terre di Chianti Collection celebrates the Italian vineyards.

Traditional Italian Inspiration: Italy and olive oil are almost interchangeable and the European olive tree has come to symbolize the essence of the Mediterranean region and it’s gardens. Olive oil has been used throughout history in cooking, skin care and as a medicine. It has been considered a divine ‘gift’ from the Gods and nature by many cultures throughout history. Our Olive Collection pays tribute to this revered gift from nature.

Variety: Our Modigliani Olive Italian Collection offers a wide array of pieces for your kitchen and table. From napkin holders and utensil jars to serving bowls and dinner plates, this collection has it all. Some pieces are painted with a turquoise outline as an alternative to the traditional items in the collection.

Giardino all’Italiana

Italian Garden and Symmetry: Inspired by the beautiful, elegant gardens found throughout Italy, our Giardino all’Italiana Collection uses the combination of basket weave and bark texture with detailed painting of a variety garden treasures. In Tuscany, as well as in Rome and elsewhere in Italy, Giardino all’Italiana, translated an Italian Garden, is characterized by elegance and symmetry, with topiaries, descending tiers of terraces, plants potted in large terra-cotta jars, statues, cascades and fountains, all designed to complement the architecture of the villa to which it belongs. This style of garden made its appearance during the early Renaissance, and is the inspiration for our Giardino all’Italiana Collection.

Variety: Our Modigliani Giardino all’Italiana Italian Collection offers several painted topiary styles within the dinnerware and the serving pieces to create variety overall and the basket weave and bark finishes provide an additional dimension of unique quality.
